The document forensic service of security printing laboratories is responsible for issuing reports that conclude on genuineness and counterfeit status of questioned documents. However, the analysis and characterization of security features through different techniques allows us to make valuable contributions to enhancing security features, whether through previously unidentified characteristics that boost document protection and make them more attractive to users. The analysis and characterization of security features allow us to combine science and art to strengthen the protection, aesthetics, and end-user interest in physical security measures. We will present case studies that demonstrate this approach to contribute to our community.
