Since October 2018, groups of migrant families have inundated the southwest border to include the El Paso, Texas and Southern New Mexico region. The United States Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directed a personnel and resource “surge” to increase the DHS presence along the Southwest border. Operational efforts have established that migrants posing as family units are utilizing fraudulent documents to circumvent immigration policies. During this time, the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Forensic Laboratory has been deployed to the Southwest border in El Paso, TX for field review of identification documents. This presentation will highlight some of the documents and trends seen on the Southwest Border at the El Paso, TX Border Patrol Station.
